We introduce to you Patty Rae Wellborn. We couldn't be prouder to identify her as our gallery's first featured artist.  This global gallery offers a new venue for exposure to the global community of collectors and art enthusiasts.  The gallery offers the opportunity to develop a personal relationship with our special artists through blogs, interviews, virtual gallery and studio visits or email.  This develops a path to solve the age-old problem of artists’ works isolated to a gallery or other venue but not personally present as you would find them in their studio.  In the traditional gallery the collector must travel to the gallery but would not have the opportunity of seeing and being with the artist in their studio.  With new technology collectors can visit and engage with the artist in realtime.

- The Board

As the board and I looked for someone who would be the first artist introduced by the gallery, we searched intensely for an artist that had all the abilities and talent for which we were searching. We found that artist in Patty Rae Wellborn.  What came next was the most delightful experience, that being with Patty Rae you get the calm assurance of one who paints on canvas the inner-most parts of her soul and spirit. As you peruse her gallery perhaps you will find a fitting together of an imagined vision of your dwelling place. For me personally, it is important that what I see gives me a sense of comfort and quiet joy.

"My earliest memory of drawing is from around the age of three years old. I remember drawing a picture of my grandmother’s goldfish. It's a vivid memory. I'm the oldest of the grandchildren. I was sitting alone at the coffee table. I remember the adults were sitting in the kitchen area. I can't remember anything anyone said, but I remember my thought process. I was drawing circles with lines streaming from them all in one direction. I was amazed at how those lines made the little circular fish look like they were swimming. That is when I became aware of the power of lines in a drawing. In the abstract I paint today,I continue to use the power of lines to create movement and interest in my paintings and drawings." - Patty Rae Wellborn

"When I was a child, my mother encouraged playing with art supplies. I enjoy the physicality of oil paint. In fact, I was allowed to play outside in mud. I would build houses and carve out roads and try to make lakes (which never seemed to hold the water). Smearing paint around is much like playing in multiple colors of pigmented mud. I apply paint in many layers, using mediums such as Gamblin's cold wax or Liquin's impasto medium to build up texture. I use a multitude of tools to create texture or crevices in the paint. Working on several paintings at a time allows for the multiple layers and glazes that I add along the way to dry so that I can scrape into the top layers to reveal the layers of color underneath. It's a very exciting process for me and I get lost in my work for hours at a time." - Patty Rae Wellborn
